2023 academic calendar. The ministry of education recently released a new academic calendar that will be used for the remaining part of the 2023 academic year. This calendar which is usually generated by the education ministry is important because it will serve as a guide to all the teaching and learning activities across the country.
According to the calendar, the first term of this academic year started on the 23rd day of January, 2023. The term lasted for a total of thirteen weeks and therefore ending on the 21st day of April. The holiday took around two weeks.
Education institutions therefore reopened for their second term on the 8th of May. This second term is expected to run for a total of 14 weeks. Learners will therefore be released to go home for their August long holiday.
It is important to note that the calendar is not limited to public schools and it therefore has to be followed by all education institutions.
All schools went for a midterm break from 27th June to 2nd July. Learners therefore reported back to school and are expected to break for their August holiday on 11th of August. They will be given a two weeks august holiday and therefore report back to school on 27th of August.
The third term will run for a total of 9 weeks before junior learners will close. Breaking dates for the December holiday will be on the 27th of October.
KCPE and KPSEA are expected to start on 30th October and run for four days.
KCSE will start on 3rd of November and run for three weeks and therefore ens on 24th of November.
KCSE marking will start from 27th of November to 15th of December. Exams will therefore be released any time after the marking is done.
