73 Teachers Fired by TSC Due to Disciplinary Issues
Due to different disciplinary issues, the TSC has taken action by terminating the employment of 73 instructors. Through a Friday-published Gazette Notice, this decision was announced.
The names of the fired teachers, were listed by Nancy Macharia, the CEO of the instructors’ employer. She also made their respective TSC numbers, disciplinary case numbers, and dates of removal known to the public.
Macharia claims that those people included in the notice will no longer be able to hold a teaching position. The removal of ten of the fired instructors from the Board of Management (BOM) is noteworthy.
TSC has made it plain that unless registered under Teachers Act, these teachers are not permitted to provide teaching services. In accordance with the teachers Code of Regulations, this restriction prevents them from taking part in any school educational activities.

According to the Act, “A person shall not engage in the teaching service unless such person is registered as a teacher under this Act.” Additionally, once a teacher’s name has been struck off the register in accordance with this Act, it cannot be added. Only the commission has mandate to permit such re-registration.
Schools have been cautioned by Macharia not to hire unregistered teachers. Failure to comply could result in penalties like a fine of at least Ksh100,000 or a two-year jail sentence, or both.
The TSC has also specified how teacher appointments may be terminated. The Commission shall give a written three-month notice for all permanent and pensionable appointments or shall pay a one-month basic salary in lieu of such notice. Benefits from the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) are handled in temporary appointments in accordance with the NSSF Act Cap 258.
Additionally, under certain conditions, male teachers who paid into the Widows and Children’s Pension Scheme (WCPS) may be entitled to a reimbursement of their contributions.
