Bad news to TSC teachers. The teachers service commission (TSC) is a commission in the country that has been given a constitutional mandate to:
-
- Register teachers
- Hire teachers
- Promote teachers
- Exercise disciplinary action on teachers
- Among other functions
This month, July, teachers who are employed by the teachers service commission have been having higher hopes that they will receive a larger salary this month as compared to other months.

This is in response to the decision made by the salaries and remuneration commission on salaries. The commission seemed to enhance salaries over the next two financial years, 2023/2024 and also 2024/2025.
The Kenyan president His Excellency William Samoei Ruto supported the proposal that was submitted by the salary agency. He therefore noted that both educators and police officers needed an increase in their salaries. This was because the government wanted to close the pay gap that is between teachers and police officers and other public employees who receive low income.
Nevertheless, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has raised a major concern. The union has said that there are chances that the expected increase in salaries might not be effected on this month’s salary.
The secretary general for the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers, Akelo Misori, has raised claims that the SRC was supposed to have called a meeting with union officials and also members from other unions so as to have a discussion and reach a conclusion on how the increase in salaries would be effected.
While speaking in Nairobi, Kuppet mocked SRC for not involving them. The said that as a result of the negotiations, there could have been a review in the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
