Circumstances under which TSC can deregister a Teacher.
TSC in Kenya is the entity basically responsible for teacher registration and deregistration. There are some situations that could lead to a teacher being removed from the list of registered teachers. Here are a few factors that may cause teachers to lose their licenses:
- Dies
- Obtains registration through use of fraud
- Has a criminal record that includes sexual offenses or offenses against students
- A felony conviction that disqualifies someone from working as a teacher
- Is deemed unsuitable to teach after disciplinary actions
- Suffers from a condition that prevents them from carrying out the responsibilities of a teacher, such as a bodily or mental illness or infirmity.
Requirements for TSC Registration of Teachers
Before teachers are allowed to teach in any public or private institution, the commission is required to register them. This is according to the providence under the TSC Act 2012, Article 237 of the constitution.
Thereafter, a certificate of registration with a TSC number will be given to teachers who satisfies the prerequisites for registration. The certificate normally takes a period slightly less than 30 days. Consequently, the identities of all teachers who have registered will be made public every year.
Requirements:
- Both the user’s handbook and the registration application must be submitted online.
- These files should be scanned and uploaded:
- Copies of diplomas and licenses that have been duly certified
- National identification card
- Bank receipt
- One photograph, passport-size
- KRA pin
- Form GP69
- Certificate of good conduct
- Non-Kenyans need visas for entry and employment.
Before submitting your application, you must pay a non-refundable cost of Kshs. 1050 for new registration. One of the approved E-Citizen government payment options (MPesa, Airtel Money, KCB Cash, Equity Cash, or E-Agent) can be used.
Also, before as an old member submit application, you must pay a non-refundable charge of Kshs. 2050 by one of the approved E-Citizen government payment options (MPesa, Airtel Money, KCB Cash, Equity Cash, or E-Agent) simultaneously.
You are further reminded to scan only the original copies of documents. Often, a person may not be allowed to register if they:
- Does not possess the necessary academic and professional credentials
- Has been found guilty of a sexual offense or an offense against a student and is not of good moral character
- A felony conviction that disqualifies someone from working as a teacher
- Is involved in acts that threaten Kenya’s peace, stability, or effective government
- Possesses a physical or mental impairment that prevents them from carrying out teaching duties.
