Machogu addresses 26871 transfer requests.
Recently, the education CS Machogu revealed that a good number of teachers are due for relocation to their home counties. Apparently, 26,871 educators are due for process in the third term of this academic year, 2023.
So far, a total of 46,926 teachers from birth primary and secondary schools had shown interest for the transfers as of June 30. Out of this huge number, barely half of the requests were considered and fulfilled by the ministry of education.
According to the CEO teachers service commission (TSC), they are committed to ensure transition for relocating teachers is smooth. This could be achieved by ensuring suitable replacements are made available to the stations of their current appointments and therefore openings possible at their desired transfer stations.
Appearing recently before the Senate, the education CS Machogu elaborated that the process would make it possible for the commission to guarantee fair distribution of teachers. Likewise, there could be best use of teachers across the nation hence ensuring the best benefit to all students.
So far, the ministry has adjusted the transfer policy among tutors. Similarly, in response to senator Samson Cherargey of Nandi’s question on the delocalization strategy, Mr Machogu made it clear that it no longer applies.
In reference to article 43 of the Kenyan constitution, the education CS emphasized that TSC is mandated to fair distribution of teachers. The commission also has a role of maximizing the efficacy of educators within public primary institutions with the aim of ensuring accessibility to quality education all over the nation.

Currently , any teacher who wants to relocate must submit a formal transfer request. The application is handled in accordance with the ideas of equitable distribution as well as effective personnel utilization.

- Availability of a vacancy at the intended institution
- Replacement needs
- Current staffing standards
- Health related issues
- Other relevant TSC considerations
Consequently, a teacher will be approved to move to their county of choice if;
- There are acceptable openings
- Replacements
- A balanced staffing ratio
The above approach controls widespread teacher relocations which Amy end up disturbing educational settings.
Among the transfer requests received by TSC, 35,959 are aligned to primary level. Even so, only 17,942 transfers were made possible as the rest have to wait for the next suitable replacements.
At post primary level, only 2,113 transfers were approved out if the 10,967 teachers who applied.
