Good news to interns as TSC reveals this. The teachers service commission (TSC) is the only commission that is given the mandate by the constitution of Kenya to:
Mandates of TSC,
- Register teachers
- Hire teachers
- Promote teachers from one job group to the other
- Discipline teachers
- Transfer teachers from one work station to the other
- And also to pay teachers.
The commission which is currently under the leadership of chief executive officer Dr Nancy Macharia in its recent affirmation confirmed that it is going to give teachers promotion from their current job groups to the next job groups. The commission has also confirmed that it is going to increase salaries of teachers teaching in kenyan primary and secondary schools.
In addition, the commission has come with good news to teachers.
The teachers service commission has confirmed that all educators who have been serving as hired interns for the period between 2019 to date are now confirmed to new terms that are permanent and pensionable.
In February this year, the teachers service commission confirmed to have hired around 20,000 intern teachers. A better deal of these numbers was hired in order to oversee the new education system in the country. This new education system is the competency based curriculum (CBC) in junior schools.
Some of these teachers have been placed to terms that are permanent and pensionable as well. Reports show that this year, many teacher terms for currently hired teachers have been converted to be permanent and pensionable.
In case these changes take effect, this year will be a record for employment of more teachers by PNP.
As a result, the teachers service commission has sent a message to all intern teachers informing them that they will be receiving letters that are going to instruct them on confirmation for the long-term pensionable terms as soon as the budget is passed by the government.
