Good news to teachers. As a result of the latest order by the high court, teachers employed under the teachers service commission (TSC) are expected to enjoy high salaries this month.
The national treasury has already given out 9.1 billion shillings to the teachers service commission. These funds are supposed to be used in implementing this month(July)’s payrise plan for over 350,000 educators and secretariat staff who are on PNP payroll.
While announcing salary increment for teachers by around 7% to 10%,the president said that this is to cushion public servants from the correct economic state of the country.
The president confirmed that he already knows of the SRC proposal on salaries. He then promised public servants that their salaries will be increased by 7 to ten percent. The president said this while at the new e-citizen platform launch at KICC.
However, how much intresting the July payrise fir teachers will be depends on the latest order by the high court on finance bill 2023.
Yesterday, the high court judge declined the set aside orders suspending finance act 2023. According to his ruling, Omtatah’s petitioners proved that they have a case. He also added that the public stands will suffer incase the orders are lifted. He then ordered that the file be forwarded to chief justice Koome so she can appoint a bench if judges to hear the matter.
As a matter of fact, salaries for teachers are expected to increase by 7% this July. In addition to this, teachers will not be deducted the 1.5% proposed housing levy from their salaries. This is according to the latest court directive which will ban TSC from deducting 1.6% from teacher’s salaries.

In addition to the enhanced net pay, educators will have a higher borrowing power when going for check off loans.
The payrise is expected to be reflected on July’s payslip.
Starting this financial year(2023/2024), educators will get a salary increment of 7%. The payrise will be I creasing by 1% annually fir the next three financial years.
