The Government of Kuwait has pledged an investment of Sh1.1 billion to upgrade the infrastructure of 68 schools in Nyamira County. Mr. Joshua Kaga, the Director of Education for Nyamira County confirmed it. He said that a needs assessment survey has been conducted to identify the infrastructure needs of each school. The survey will similarly estimate the costs of the necessary construction work.
Many schools in the county face challenges such as:
- The absence of administrative blocks
- deteriorated and unsafe structures
- overcrowding
- Lack of water harvesting and storage systems and more, all of which affect the quality of education.
A joint effort between Kenya and Kuwait aims to renovate and improve the infrastructure of these 68 schools. This in return will create a better learning environment for students hence addressing the challenge.
Government contracted Kuwait Hope Design Systems Limited and AL Habshi Consultants to provide design and construction supervision services for this project.

The project will be customized to suit the specific requirements of each school, with additional funding used for expansion or other necessary improvements.
The challenging terrain of the county, including mountainous areas and infrastructure deficiencies, will require contractors to navigate effectively and efficiently utilize school land. Proper mechanisms will be established to address project execution challenges, ensuring that the projects are completed and put into use promptly.
The County Director of Education has called upon various stakeholders, including school administrators, the Board of Management, political leaders, professionals, and government administrators, to collaborate during the project’s execution, emphasizing the importance of investing in the future of the region’s children and the country as a whole.
