Student rescued from kidnappers who wanted Ksh10 million in ransom.
A third-grade student was saved by Buruburu police station detectives from alleged kidnappers demanding a Ksh.10 million ransom.
The father of the 9-year-old student was going to pick him up from the school in Donholm only to miss him. This is according to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday.
Later, he learned that his kid had left the school grounds with his class teacher, Mr. Erick Mosoti.
However, attempts to contact the teacher proved unsuccessful. The father then reported the incident to local police after receiving a call from the kidnappers. They were demanding for an astronomical ransom before releasing the child.
The young person was eventually rescued in the Kayole Sabasaba region. A joint operation conducted by Nairobi Region Command and DCI Buruburu rescued him. He or she was then taken to the hospital for an examination.
“…(the minor) had been locked in a room believed to have been rented by another teacher, namely George Odhiambo. Odhiambo is among the teaching staff of the same school with the main suspect,” stated DCI.
The person demanding the ransom, Fredrick Odhiambo, was eventually captured and held captive. Materials thought to have helped the crime were confiscated, including a motorcycle and a cell phone.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend more suspects who are still at large.
