How to calculate cluster points. The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is the body in Kenya that is mandated to place students to institutions of higher learning. The government therefore gets all advice concerning placement from KUCCPS. As a matter of fact, KUCCPS uses a specific formula to calculate the cluster points for any degree course.
The formula therefore takes note of the following cluster subjects
-
Cluster one,
Cluster one has four subjects. This include mathematics and the three science subjects. The cluster therefore has physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics.
-
Cluster two,
Cluster two comprises of humanity subjects. These humanity subjects includes history, geography and also religion (christian religious education or Islamic religious education).
-
Cluster three,
This cluster comprises of languages. The language subjects include; English, kiswahili, English literature, french, German and also Arabic. In addition, the cluster includes Kenyan sign language and any other subject not in either of the first two clusters.
-
Cluster four,
This is where all the technicals and applied lie. We have home science, art and design, agriculture, aviation technology. Computer studies, woodwork and also metal work. Building construction, power mechanics, electricity, drawing and design. In addition, any subject that is not included in any of the first three clusters lie in this forth cluster.

The formula for calculating cluster points,
The formula used when calculating clusters is usually: (C1X1)+(C2X2)+(C3X1)+(C4X1).
Where, C1, C2, C3 and C4 are the grades that are averagely obtained in the clusters.
The multipliers is also used so as to add weight to the grades obtained in the clusters.
