Kisii Governor Simba Arati threatens to sack striking ECDE teachers.
Governor Simba Arati has warned local Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers against going for strike. The county boss threatened to fire them all if the strike planned for September 14, 2023 goes through.
The Kisii County government, they claim, has repeatedly ignored their complaints about issues including low pay. These group of teachers had previously informed the police of their intention to strike.
While speaking to the public in Kisii town, Governor Arati stressed the availability of qualified but unemployed ECDE teachers. He said that these unemployed teachers are prepared to fill in for their colleagues who are organizing a protest. He therefore made the implication that anyone taking part in the walkout may risk losing their jobs.

The governor further indicated that his government would use volunteer teachers to fill the gap. He also pledged to make sure that kids did not miss out on their education while there was a strike.
Arati emphasized that in the past, the now-dissolved County Public Service Board was used to voice teachers’ concerns, which caused delays in finding solutions.
