Anthony Mayara, Chairman of the Kenya Universities Students’ Organization (KUSO), has provided support to college students who are waiting on money from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) in a kind gesture. On Twitter, Mayara announced an effort dubbed “ZA KABEJ” that attempts to offer immediate assistance to needy students who are experiencing food poverty as a result of these delays.
Mayara invited impacted students to disclose their financial difficulties, expressing her sincere concern for the students who not only experience irritation due to HELB delays but also struggle to buy basic requirements.
Students must reply to his tweet with a concise description of their situation, a screenshot of their MPESA balance, their MPESA number, their HELB batch number, and the name of their particular university or institution in order to be considered for help.
The “Kabej” initiative is primarily concerned with meeting basic requirements. To ensure that students do not go hungry during these difficult times, a supper made of maize flour or rice, tomatoes, onions, eggs, and cooking oil may be made for around Ksh 105.
Students are urged to respond quickly because this deal is only valid today from noon to 4 PM and is time-limited. Additionally, Mayara made mention of potential protests for the next week, indicating a unified front among students in addressing the persistent issues with HELB disbursements.
The chairman of KUSO took this step to show support for the student body as well as to highlight the urgent need for a prompt resolution to the problems with financial aid disbursement that many Kenyan students are presently dealing with.
