List of all NSSF pension benefits. The upper earning limit (UEL) as set by SRC is ksh 18,000 while the lower earning limit (LEL) is ksh 6,000. On the pensionable wages, a 12% deduction is made with an equal of 6% for both employee and employer.
The maximum deductions are limited to ksh 2,160 for members earning KSH 18,000 and more. The deductions are made on the employee’s salary. Employers are therefore required to provide disbursements.
The following are some of the ways educators employed under TSC are going to benefit from NSSF
1. Age benefit
Educators who have attained 55 years and also retired from regular employment are eligible for this benefit.
2. Withdrawal benefits
Teachers who are 50 years and have already retired from formal employment are eligible for this benefit.
3. Survivor’s benefits
This benefit applies to members who were rendered invalid because of physical or mental illness hence unable to earn a reasonable livelihood.
4. Invalidity benefits
This benefit is also payable to individuals who have been seen to be unable to work due to physical and mental disabilities.
5. Emigration grants benefits
Unlike some of the other benefits, this benefit is not dependent on the age of an individual. It is therefore payable to kenyan employees who are migrating from Kenya to any other state and have no intentions of coming back to Kenya.
6. Funeral grant
This benefit does not affect the members directly. It is therefore a token that is given to support the families of the members after a member dies. A nominated representative of the bereaved family receives the payment. It is also important to note that this benefit applies only when the member had already contributed to NSSF for atleast 3 months. It is payable within 3 months after the member’s death.
Instructors who served under temporary terms of service are supposed to visit sub-county NSSF offices and obtain a schedule that indicates the amount and the period of contribution. They should forward the statement to the commission for updating incase the amount does not reflect.
All these benefits are payable in line with the NSSF Act Cap 258.
