TSC distribution of teacher interns. TSC has recently released the distribution of the 20,000 internship positions for educators both in primary schools and junior secondary schools for this month.
The commission aimed at reaching registered teachers who are still unemployed. These teachers will therefore be assigned to institutions of learning where they will enhance their experience through mentorship, coaching and also through exposure to practical teaching skills.
Earlier, the commission had confirmed availability of 18,000 JSS and 2,000 primary school internship positions. The signings would help with the Competency based curriculum implementation.
These interns have therefore been distributed all through the 47 counties with Kitui county having the highest number.

The slots were distributed as follows:
Central region,
Kiambi was allocated 533 JSS and 42 primary school teachers. Murang’a got 635 JSS and 42 primary school teachers. Nyandarua got 324 JSS and 42 primary school teachers. Kirinyaga also got 42 primary school teachers and 271 JSS interns. Nyeri got 415 JSS interns and 42 primary school teachers.
Murang’a therefore got the highest number of JSS interns in this region. In addition, all counties got the same number of primary teachers.
Coast region,
Mombasa got 128 JSS and 42 primary teachers. Taita taveta got 188 JSS and 42 primary teachers. 156 JSS and 42 primary teachers were allocated to Tana River, 398 JSS and 42 primary teachers in kwale. Kilifi got 512 JSS and 44 primary teachers. Lamu also got 42 primary teachers and 89 JSS interns. Kilifi therefore got the highest number of both JSS and primary teacher interns in the coast region. In addition, Lamu got the lowest number of JSS interns in the coast region.
Eastern region,
Embu got 354 JSS and 42 primary teachers. Isiolo got 78 JSS and 42 primary teachers while Kitui got 758 JSS and 44 primary teachers. 655 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Machakos, 552 JSS and 42 primary teachers in makueni, 150 JSS and 42 primary teachers in marsabit. 468 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Meru, 314 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Tharaka Nithi.
Nairobi got 424 JSS and 42 primary teachers.
Kitui county therefore got the highest number of both JSS and primary teachers in the eastern region. In addition, Isiolo git the lowest number of JSS interns in the eastern region.
North eastern,
229 JSS and 45 primary school teachers in Mandera, 205 JSS and 45 primary teachers in wajir, 159 JSS and 45 primary teachers in Garissa. Mandera therefore got the highest number of JSS interns in the north eastern region. In addition,the north eastern region got the highest number of primary teachers allocation per county.
Nyanza region,
691 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Kisii, 403 JSS and 42 primary teachers in nyamira, 389 JSS and 42 primary teachers in migori. 420 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Siaya, 249 JSS and 45 primary teachers in Kisumu, 386 JSS and 44 primary teachers in homabay. Kisii therefore git the highest number of JSS interns in the nyanza region. In addition, Kisumu county got the highest number of primary teachers allocation in the nyanza region.
Rift Valley,
574 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Baringo, 553 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Bomet, 375 JSS and 42 primary teachers in elgeyo marakwet. 381 JSS and 42 primary teachers in kajiado, 485 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Kericho, 244 JSS and 42 primary teachers in laikipia. Nakuru got 698 JSS and 42 primary teachers therefore receiving the highest number of JSS interns in the Rift Valley region.
580 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Nandi, 618 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Narok. Samburu got 133 JSS and 42 primary teachers therefore receiving the lowest number of JSS interns in the Rift Valley region.
Trans nzoia got 325 JSS and 42 primary teachers. 260 JSS and 44 primary teachers in Turkana, 362 JSS and 42 primary teachers in uasin gishu, 431 JSS and 44 primary teachers in West pokot.
Western region,
454 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Bungoma, 261 JSS and 42 primary teachers in Busia, 254 JSS and 42 primary teachers in vihiga. Kakamega got 479 JSS and 44 primary teachers therefore receiving the highest number of both JSS and primary teachers in the Western region.
Educators placed to primary schools will receive a monthly pay of KSH 15,000. On the other hand, JSS interns will receive KSH 20,000 per month.
In addition, the internship will last for a period of 12 months.

Successful candidates for JSS will therefore be required to teach various learning areas under the junior secondary curriculum.
Upon completion of the internship program, intern teacher will therefore be awarded a certificate by the teachers service commission.
