TSC issues new tough requirements. Earlier, the teachers service commission (TSC) announced 20,000 internship slots for teachers. The slots included those for primary school teachers as well as junior secondary school teachers.
In addition to the 18,000 slots that were remaining for junior secondary schools, TSC allocated 2,000 slots for primary schools.
The commission opened its portal for online application and also sent a link to all teachers who showed interest. However, a number of questions emerged since there were problems after the application.
Among the new TSC requirements;
-
Ethnicity
Firstly, educators are required to indicate their ethnicity while doing their internship application. The quest by the commission to learn about the racial backgrounds of teachers has baffled so many teachers.
The internship report that was provided by the commission to parliament in May this year may however be relevant in this case. According to a poll, it was noted that a greater percentage of the 3,600 TSC instructors who were hired in January were from the kalenjin region.

As per the information given by the TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia, 20,990 teachers had been newly hired by the time this report was drafted.
-
Certificate of good conduct
In addition to the requirements, all hired teachers must have a certificate of good conduct. According to her report from 2021, Prof. Fatuma Chege who is the principal secretary of the state department for implementation of curriculum reforms demanded that it be necessary for all teachers to have a certificate of good conduct. In addition, no teacher will be allowed to teach if they don’t have a certificate of good conduct.

There’s no room for editing
Unlike in last applications, teachers have noted that once data has been submitted in this new application, it becomes difficult to make any changes to it. Candidates therefore have to be keen while applying. This is because they cannot be able to check for accuracy after submission.
