TSC Resumes Demotion Process for Non-graduate Teachers.
To accurately quantify those primary school headteachers who hold graduate degrees, the TSC has started a new data collection method.
The Commission is asking school administrators to list their greatest level of education (P1, DEGREE, MASTERS). Other pertinent information may also be listed on an Excel file as required by the Teachers Service Commission.
The education task force’s recommendations, which support the consolidation of nursery, primary, and junior schools under the direction of a Principal, are being carried out by TSC.

These three educational levels would be combined into one organization called a Comprehensive School, which would be directed by a Principal who would be required to hold a degree.
Deputy principals who oversee the preschool, primary, and junior wings of the school will assist the principal in management roles.
Bachelor’s degrees in education are therefore required for both the principal and deputy principals.
Although a sizable majority of primary school headteachers also hold diplomas, many of them obtain P1 certificates instead.
Furthermore, temporary principal assignments of one year were made to primary school headteachers who integrated junior secondary sections into their schools.
Headteachers are allocated to oversee the junior secondary sections under the current regulations until December 30, 2023. Thereafter, fresh modifications suggested by the education reform team will take effect for a period not exceeding one year.
Kenya has more than 23,000 public primary schools, many of which feature junior secondary sections that have been approved by the Ministry of Education.
Senior teachers will work under the direction of the Principal, and TSC and the government will create rules for them.
Current headteachers who do not match the requirements for managing comprehensive schools will likely be demoted. They will hence be given fewer responsibilities, giving up authority over daily operations and budget decisions.
Unfortunately, due to the Commission’s difficulties in attracting candidates for administrative positions, certain schools have been functioning without permanent heads.
