The teachers service commission is a body in Kenya which is given mandate by the Kenyan government to take responsibility for teacher management and regulation during employment and also during their service in the public education institutions. The teachers service commission has its own terms of service since it operates just like other bodies.

1. Appointment
The teachers service commission appoints educators based on their merit and qualifications since it has the mandate and power to;

Promote teachers from one job group to the other
And also to take teachers through disciplinary action as it wishes.
2. Probation
Newly appointed educators are taken through a probation period. This step is necessary because it is within this period that the performance and suitability of these teachers to work in the teaching profession is assessed. The probation period is usually one year.
3. Remuneration
The commission is responsible for setting the salaries and allowances for all Kenyan teachers due to the powers it has been given by the government. This remuneration package include;Basic salary, housing allowance, medical cover among many other allowances as decided by TSC.

4. Leave
Teachers are entitled to different types of leaves because all teachers have a right to the various types of leaves. This leaves may include; annual leave, maternity/paternity leave, study leave, sick leave among others. Entitlements and conditions for the specific types of leaves for teachers are outlined by TSC because it is its mandate.
5. Professional development
Teachers are required to constantly involve themselves in continuous professional development so as to enhance their skill. The commission (TSC) gives room for opportunities like training, workshop and seminars in order to support the professional growth of teachers.
6. Performance appraisal
Periodic evaluation is conducted on teachers through performance appraisal by the TSC. This is necessary because the results of the appraisal are the ones that determine whether or not the teacher is going to get a promotion, salary increment among other benefits.
7. Discipline
The powers of taking disciplinary action on teachers are laid on the teachers service commission because it has been given that mandate by the national government. 8. Retirement
Educators have a right to retirement benefits when they retire. These benefits are imposed by the teachers service commission and may include pension and other retirement benefits as outlined by TSC.
