Education Reforms team’s demands. The Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms has asked for the renaming of the education management information system (EMIS).
In a report that they submitted to President Ruto on Tuesday, the reforms team proposed that the education management information system be renamed to Kenya education management information system.
Part of the report read that the EMIS word that is currently used in the act be deleted. It should therefore be replaced with the KEMIS.
In addition, the reforms team said that basic education refers to the education management information system (EMIS) and not the currently known NEMIS.
The recommendation demanded the replacement so as to reflect our country, Kenya.
In addition, the PWPER wants KEMIS to register all students in basic education institutions and incase a learner can not be registered due to various reasons which may include lack of a national identification card or being above eighteen years of age, each case shall be handled on its merit by the county director of education and register the learner on KEMIS whenever the reason given is merited.
The group also recommended provision of general penalties in the regulations for the falsification of data.
It has been noted that learners above 18 are not admissible in the system.
There have been several instances of information falsification.
Roles of EMIS,
Data collection and integration
Data processing
Maintainance of data
And also data dissemination for a system of education
Information is also uploaded in this system to support decision making, analysis and formulation of policies, planning, monitoring and management at all levels within an education system.
The system includes,
- Humans
- Technology
- Models
- Processes
- Procedures
- Rules and regulations
All these work together in the education space.
The education management system (EMIS) provides data that is comprehensive and reliable to members within the education space.
Data provided is also unambiguous and timely.
The system also offers leaders in education hence making it easy for them to monitor whatever’s going on in their institutions.
