KNEC reveals new security measures. New security measures have been proposed by the Kenya national examination council. This measures are aimed at addressing any arising exam malpractice issues during this year’s national examinations.
It has been learnt that all of the examinations for the day will no longer be collected at the same time in the morning by the examination officials.
The principals who are also the managers of various centers are the ones who will be tasked to pick the morning exam papers.
Exam officials will therefore gather the papers after the candidates are done with their first exam. They will keep the papers in a location that is safe as they collect the papers that are to be done in the afternoon.
According to the ministry and the council, these changes are important because they will limit the amount of time the papers are exposed to candidates. This will therefore limit the risks of cheating in those exams. In addition, this move will ensure integrity throughout the examination process.
The current practice where exam papers are being picked from containers by the examination officials that are within their sub-counties will also be reviewed.
Centers where examinations are done will be forced to collect exam papers from the closest container from their center. This is because some institutions suffer during this period since they are registered in a different sub-county and therefore can not get exams from containers that are closest to them.

In an attempt to address this issue, the council is planning to have some additional exam containers. This will ensure the storage facilities for these exams are closer to institutions. This will therefore reduce the amount of time for collection and delivery of the exam papers.
According to KNEC stats, 1.4M learners registered for KCPE. 1.2M are expected to do their KPSEA examinations. 903,260 students will take KCSE.
From the examination timetable for this year, KCSE and KPSEA rehearsal will be done on Friday 27th of October. Exams will therefore be done from Monday to Wednesday 1st Nov. KCSE exams will start from 2nd to 24th of November.
