Kenyan school calendar for 2023.
The public is notified of the general school calendar for all secondary and primary schools in Kenya. This is a document that is usually agreed on at the beginning of the year by the ministry of education. Everyone is asked to stay updated by having a copy of this document here for time to time reference.
This year’s school calendar has reflected normalcy after the country was hit by COVID-19 pandemic and hence bringing disruptions in education sector. Consequently, Parents and guardians are asked to be updated so that they can plan their children accordingly and on time.
Term 1 2023 school dates
Term 1 2023 has a total of 13 study weeks. This term began on January 23rd running through April 21st 2023. Learners are expected to cover at least first third of KICD provided syllabus. A section of co-curricular activities are also supposed to take place within this period.
Term 2 2023 school dates
Term 2 2023 has a total of 14 weeks. This term began on May 8th and is supposed to end by August 12 2023. The second third of the term will be covered within this period. A number of sporting and cultural activities take place within this period.
Term 2 mid term break
After the second term of the year has come to an end, all learners are expected to break for a two week’s holiday. The holiday is scheduled to begin from August 12th through August 27th.
Term 3 2023 school dates
Term 3 of every normal year is always shortest for Kenyan schools. This year’s term 3 programs will begin from August 28th running through October 27th. This is a total of 10 weeks. Students will therefore have to prepare for their end of year exams. Basically, for continuing students, the exams will allow them move to another level in the same category of education.

On the other hand, candidates who comprise grade 6 for CBC and grade 8 and form four for 8.4.4, their exams will be KNEC based. As a result, it will allow them move to another level of education in the higher category.
KCPE and KCSE National Examinations
This year, Kenya certificate of primary education (KCPE) exams are likely to begin on October 30th and end on November 2nd.
